Practical Dog Training level 3

Open College Network West Midlands Instructing Dog Training Level 3  Cost €525

The Open College Network West Midlands Level 3 Award in Dog Training Theory is part of the Canine Training and Behavior certificate has been developed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career working in the canine care and welfare sector. It can be studied as a stand alone Award or as part of the Canine Training and Behaviour certificate.

This
qualification can be used flexibly to meet learner needs. Depending on the context of the learning and the needs of each individual learner, the qualification can:
  • prepare learners for employment;
  • support a role in the workplace;
  • encourage engagement in learning.
Prepare individuals to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding;
  The qualification Canine Training and Behaviour has been designed to enable learners to
  •  understand dog training instruction
  • understand canine behaviour and communication
  • run practical dog training sessions
  • instruct dog training
Course Content:
1. Know how to develop training methods for dog handlers.
1.1. Summarise different learning styles for people.
1.2. Explain how to adapt training sessions to meet individual needs.
1.3. Summarise how dogs learn.
1.4. Explain how to accommodate differences in dogs’ motivational levels.
1.5. Develop a range of training methods to enable handlers to work effectively with their dogs.
2. Be able to plan safe and effective group training sessions.
2.1. Develop schemes of work and associated lesson plans for courses of lessons showing progressive exercises appropriate to the group.
2.2. Evaluate resources required to safely and effectively deliver training sessions.
2.3. Evaluate the effectiveness of training sessions.
2.4. Revise own approach to training where necessary.
3. Be able to deliver safe and effective group training sessions.
3.1. Manage classes safely.
3.2. Instruct handlers clearly.
3.3. Demonstrate delivery of effective group training sessions.
3.4. Justify the choice of instructing and technical methods within the context of sessions delivered.
4. Be able to deliver and evaluate short lectures.
4.1. Develop a plan to deliver short lectures.
4.2. Develop resources to support short lectures.
4.3. Deliver short lectures.
4.4. Evaluate the effectiveness of own lectures.
4.5. Review own lecture delivery where. necessary

Entry requirements: This course is suitable for those working in, or wishing to work in the Canine industry or pet owners that would like to increase their knowledge about dogs.  A knowledge of working with dogs is not required. Minimum age 18 years
